Guidance, Mentorship, and Support from Those Who Understand
Guidance, Mentorship, and Support from Those Who Understand
Adolescence can be overwhelming. Many young people feel isolated when dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, social pressures, or emotional struggles. Youth Peer Support is designed to give them a relatable, encouraging guide who understands what they’re going through.
How It Works
● Each participant is matched with a trained youth peer ● Peers act as role models, offering consistent encouragement and mentorship.● Support can be provided for up to 12 hours per week, in home, school, or community settings.
Key Benefits
● Coping Skills: Learn practical tools for managing stress and emotions. ● Self-Advocacy: Build confidence in speaking up and asking for help when needed.● Resilience: Gain strategies for facing challenges and bouncing back.● Connection: Reduce feelings of isolation by building a supportive relationship with a peer who “gets it.”
Youth Peer Support helps young people feel empowered to take charge of their growth and believe in their potential.
Adulthood brings its own challenges — from managing stress and mental health needs to working toward independence. Adults often feel more comfortable connecting with someone who has faced similar struggles and come out stronger. Adult Peer Support provides just that.
How It Works
● Adults are paired with a dedicated peer who provides mentoring, encouragement, and accountability.● Services are flexible, ranging from 10–20 hours per week depending on individual needs.● Support is tailored to help individuals navigate recovery, manage daily responsibilities, and access community resources.
Key Benefits
● Guidance from Experience: Learn from someone who has successfully navigated similar challenges.● Goal Setting & Mentorship: Work toward personal milestones with peer encouragement.● Practical Support: Help with finding resources, managing responsibilities, and making progress step by step.● Hope & Connection: Realize that independence and recovery are possible with the right support.
Adult Peer Support reduces isolation, encourages growth, and supports individuals as they take meaningful steps toward independence.

Services are flexible, supportive, and available where families need them most — at home, in the community, or virtually.
Peer Support is different from traditional therapy or medical care — it’s about connection, trust, and empowerment. When someone sees that their mentor has faced similar struggles and made progress, it builds hope. Families and individuals often say that Peer Support is what made them feel “seen” and gave them the courage to keep moving forward.
At FSS NY, we integrate Peer Support into our broader services because we know healing is not just clinical — it’s also personal.
